Description
"Monastery of the Holy Spirit" - Church Pictures Steven Michael Photography and Art.
In 1944, 21 Monks set out on a journey that lead them from Kentucky to the wilderness of rural Conyers, Georgia. In order to make this home, they would spend the next 15 years completing the construction of all the buildings on the property, including their place of worship, The Abbey. The Church is the largest structure on the property and was built as a place to pray and seek God. A silent reverence falls over you as you open the heavy wooden doors and see the light shining in through the colors of the beautiful stained glass windows. Made by hand, each piece of stained glass was created by the Monks in the 1950's. As you gaze upwards, it is as if you can see all the way to heaven with the tall archways that push the ceiling towards the sky. This magnificent piece of architecture remains today and embodies the hopes of those 21 young Monks to create a home devoted to God's word.
